We've successfully reduced the thickness of the submerged portion of these new North masts by over 15% compared to our standard North Carbon masts. With a shorter chord length throughout the entire mast, the HM80 reduces drag and enhances maneuverability. North HM85 Mast: Specially crafted for all-around performance with a focus on wing-foiling, the North HM85 is ideal for wind-powered activities that require edging against the wind to generate forward momentum. The submerged part of the mast features a slightly longer chord length to efficiently transfer this drive. Near the top, where it emerges from the water, the chord length increases to optimize stiffness without incurring a drag penalty. The result is a mast that provides less drag, higher and more accessible top-end speeds, and significantly reduced ventilation issues, ensuring consistent performance regardless of sea conditions.
North HM105 Mast: Optimized for racing, the North HM105 takes performance a step further by reducing the thickness of the submerged part by an additional 1mm compared to the HM80 and HM85, focusing on achieving maximum top-end speed. This mast is specifically designed for straight-line speed and is not intended for jumping. The chord lengths in the submerged and above-water sections are fine-tuned to maximize upwind drive and stiffness, respectively.
